Tackling Rheumatic Disease
Over 8 million people in the UK are affected by rheumatic disease leading to significant physical disability, discomfort and economic loss. Further scientific research is needed, set within a clinical context.
Nuffield’s Oliver Bird Programme aims to address this
need by developing a cohort of outstanding young research scientists, trained in the relevant leading edge biosciences within multidisciplinary research teams. 28 PhD students are already on board; the Trustees have agreed funding for a further 25. Nuffield looks forward to seeing the longer term benefits of their research, and to following their careers.

Please note that no other rheumatism grants are available at this time.

The Programme offers 4 year PhD training programmes in the biosciences at five Collaborative Centres of excellence in rheumatic disease research.

From here you can find more information about the five Oliver Bird Collaborative Centres, including contact details and links to web sites.
